The 90-day Job Search Challenge

“In every real man a child is hidden that wants to play.”  – Friedrich Nietzsche

This is a Game that I initially did with my own coach Rich Litvin on the topic of Client Billings. It works very well for Job Search topics too and I used it many times to help job seekers tap into the hidden job market. Here is the script of the exercise.

1. Pick a number. Any number. A number that makes you feel ALIVE. A number that fills you with ENERGY. This number is the amount of new professional connections you would like to create in the next 90 days. (It really doesn’t matter if it feels “impossible” or not, what matters is that it gets you truly excited).

2. Draw a thermometer with your number at the top. Or a picture that feels like fun to fill in. Don’t think anything too serious. For example, you could draw a nice red Ferrari and color a different part in for each 10 new connections created.

3. Then have fun filling your thermometer / coloring in your picture as you create new connections.

As a Career Coach:

  • How can you help your client have more fun during the job search process?
  • What games and challenges can you introduce?
  • What posters or wall boards can lighten up a job search?

To fun, play and lightness!
